Research Interests: Medical Sociology, Science and Technology Studies, Knowledge, Race, Cultures and Markets

Alex Torrez (They/Them) is currently completing the fully-funded Sociology Bridge to the Doctorate Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship (B2D ‘22-’24) at the University of Virginia. They obtained their Bachelors in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2020. Following graduation from UC Berkeley, Alex held professional positions at University of California, Davis and Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Their research interests include: Race/Ethnicity, Organizational Sociology, Science and Technology Studies (STS), Sociology of Knowledge and Technology (SKAT), and Medical Sociology.

Alex is currently working as a research assistant on Dr. Wendy Roth’s (University of Pennsylvania) NIH R21 Grant: How Does Genetic Ancestry Testing Affect Perceptions of Race? And collaborates with Dr. Melissa Thomas-Hunt’s Connection Lab and Dr. Ayana Younge (Darden Business School, University of Virginia).
